Local Political "Events"....

I have on occasion been to a number of local political "events".....These have included a film at the Labour HQ in Chalvey in connection with the famous strike in Dagenham ....Seeing another  film at the Slough Council entitled The Age of Stupid dealing with Climate Change....Celebrating India's Independence Day at the Hindu Temple...Talking to a Palestinian protest group in the high street..Meeting protesters concerned with making Kashmir an independent state seperate from  India...



On one occasion, a long time ago I met Caroline Lucas (before she became an MP) at a stall in the High Street. I tried to attract her to the great importance of monetary reform. She did not seem to know anything about it, and so I gave her some contacts notably Positive Money.



There used to be a series of talks in St Marys Church on political issues notably by the "disbanded" Fenner Brockway "group."It attracted a number of famous people such as Tony Benn. Also, I seem to recall listening to a talk by Dr Wall on socialism, and capitalism as well as promoting his most recent book.

Before I forget...I once met Tasmin Osmond in Slough with her former protest  group called Plane Stupid in connection with the possible expansion of Heathrow Airport. I was informed that there was something about her in the Guardian newspaper. I was surprised, and impressed to see it and as she was present I talked to  her. 




PS Ofcourse, apart from the serious world of politics I have experienced various entertainments notably in the Slough High Street. Most recently, I was ropped into being a player in a band made up of cardboard instruments, and the like!

The Curfew Tower of Windsor Castle

Back in the early 1970s I knew the old guide at the Curfew Tower of Windsor Castle. He was called George Hudson. From around the ages of 13 - 16  I used to help him with the second floor of the Tower itself as an unofficial guide. The history of this building was surprisingly interesting, and quite often tourists would miss out on not visiting it. Among other things, it is the home of the "small" dungeons where beehive shaped stone cells can still be seen. One poor prisoner tried to make a hole in one of them but was unfortunately caught as he emerged through the guard room of the Curfew Tower. Nowadays, the dungeons are used for social occasions!   My pater's mater..probably photographed in the 1940s. It is believed that this image above and  the one below was taken at their home in Brixton, London. It also had an air raid shelter and a conservatory of sorts if I recall correctly.  George Charles Searle KPM / My pater's pater. The Passing Away of Pater....

Just after 1am on the morning of January 30th 2023 I heard a bell ring and then a little later two knocks on my door at the council flat in Chalvey, Slough. Two policemen had come to inform me that my pater had died in his council flat and forced entry had been necessary to recover the body. I was not really surprised by all this as it was expected as he would die "soon" as he was  91, and moreover on the last occasion when I saw him in December last his actions seemed a bit odd . He seemed to be suffering from a degree of dementia and was  "unable" to come out of his flat to have dinner with myself  in Turham Green. Instead he asked me simply to buy 4 bottles (or rather tins)  of Guinness for him. I undertook this strange request as a dutiful son, and later returned to Slough.
