The Langley Experience

In around 2007 I was moved from Look Ahead to stay temporarily at one of their so-called scattered stocks. This was a house in Langley which is a part of Slough so to speak. It was quite a nice place.

The Hashish Smoker and the Nymphomaniac

Two Asians appeared at the Langley property. One was a man, and the other a woman who appeared to be his "girlfriend". As  I entered the property the latter started to follow me upstairs to my room. She then attempted to enter it but I forbid her from doing so, as I did not know her. Her "boyfriend" was egging her on, and she was shouting "Let me in!" "Let me in!" She was clearly an Indian nymphomaniac who always seemed to have the tendency to end her sentences with the word man...(eg. hi man! how are you man? etc). Later on she tried a few more times to gain entrance into my room, and at one point I had to restrain her  by carefully holding onto her arms, and pushing her backwards onto the landing. I had to do this ofcourse in such a way as to not hurt her physically.

Anyway, her Indian, or rather Pakistani "boyfriend" would smoke hashish on the landing. It was a curious smell which I disliked. Ofcourse, he had been in, and out of prison, and had some drug takers coming in, and out of the property now, and again. As such I did not feel very safe in my own lodgings..! Naturally enough, I did think of ringing  the Police to arrest him, and possibly others. Yet, on second thoughts I decided not to because I could become a victim of a drug gang!

Old Radios, AntiqueTelephones.. and Attempted Fraud

Though an eccentric friend of mine called Chris was evicted from Look Ahead I still had contact with him...even though he was on the road (again). He had been collecting old radios and antique telephones over the years and these were "stored" on his behalf via some friends. He asked me though whether he could give the whole lot in trust to me at one location which in this case was the property in Langley. This I did using the outbuildings, and notably the garage. Chris wanted me to sell the whole stock to someone who would appreciate them, or ideally a specialist association which dealt with old telephones, and antique radios. This I did...His collection did go to an association where it was greatly appreciated......

Around this time Chris was staying in London with a friend who happened to be a local councillor who we shall refer to as T . Anyway, I met her several times, and she seemed quite pleasant. To cut to the chase, Chris had lost sight in one of his eyes due to an assault. He was entitled to £23,000 in compensation. He had told T about this, and used her address to get a confirmation of entitlement. This happened but Chris discovered that she had tried to claim the money for herself by faking his signature, and other things!! Yet, in spite of this he tended to be remarkably foolish and naïve with his money. Infact, he gave it all away gradually to a family he later stayed with in Slough.

Helping Out

I did try to help Chris as indicated above to receive shelter. For a while I allowed him to stay at the Langley house but Look Ahead found out about it, and thus, I had to let him go. Another person known simply here as Tom was also homeless, and I had to let him go too. All rather sad.

However, when homeless Tom was sleeping on a bench in Paddington station an Indian woman who was delivering out free sandwiches took pity on him. They became friends, and indeed, lovers. Infact, they even got married and he lived with her in London in a council flat. I was the best man at the wedding. Unfortunately, for one reason, or another I lost contact with them.

PS. In connection with Chris I recall that that he once wrote to Paul McCartney of the Beatles about how he was impressed to read in the press that the latter had a very high IQ. He got a response which proved to be a surprise! McCartney replied by sending back Chris's letter and  wrote with a feltip pen on the back of it in capitals the following...."Mind your own F..K..G  business!"
